Hello,
My name is Juan Lerma Jr. , but I go by Junior Lerma. Yesterday I recieved a letter in the mail from Cambridge, Massachussetts as an invitation to the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists Congress that will take place this June 2016 in Lowell, MA. I was selected as a Delegate to represent my school, Los Altos High School and the State of California. I took this letter as an opportunity and a great blessing. Along with it came an enrollment form that is due with a payment no later than March 3, 2016. The fee for the conference is $985, not including flight, hotel, or food. I would also love more than anything, for my family to be there with me as I experience this once in a lifetime opportunity, and this is something that would only be a dream by us. Also, since we will be across the country we wouldn't want to pass up the opportunity to sight-see as it will most likely be the first and only time we will be there as a family. Honestly, I do not come from the wealthiest family, my father supports a family of four, and my mother is a stay at home mom. Like any family, we all have our struggles and our successes, however, in the end we manage to be thankful for everything no matter how insignificant something may seem. As a current sophomore in high school I dedicate many hours to volunteering at a surgical center, and also spend time broadening my knowledge and understanding of biological sciences and the anatomy of the human body. I am very thankful to be a part of the medical academy at my school as well as HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America). Our wonderful teachers never fail to give up their time to inspire the lives of their students and give them the courage and drive to continue. Thanks to these many wonderful people, I continued to persevere and during my freshman year, I placed 7th in the state at the HOSA State Leadership Conference in Sacramento, CA where there were thousands of attendees. My interest in biology was first ignited in middle school by a very unique teacher that I will never forget. From that moment I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life. My dream is to someday discover a cure or develop a more efficient surgical procedure to save our loved ones from the grasp of any deadly or chronic diseases. Now that is the end result, however this conference is just the beginning, this is where it all starts. As many of us have heard before, "a journey of a million miles begins with one step," (Lao Tzu) and this may very well be that first step. As Confucius says, "if you choose a job you love, you will never have to work a day in your life," and that is something I strongly agree with. So, if you would please find it in your heart to help me attain my dreams, to help me continue on my journey until the end result is achieved, and to hopefully someday save the lives of many, please feel free to donate anything you can. Every penny helps, everything is greatly appreciated. I wish you the very best in life always, and forever.
Blessings,
Junior Lerma
