We’re writing to you on behalf of our friend, Drew Finney.
He needs our help.
Drew means so much to all of us in different ways, and his connections span far, wide, and deep. We are his kindergarten besties, high school friends, co-workers, friends from the neighborhood, family, and new and old friends. Drew is the kind of person that you count yourself lucky to know.
Drew is a great guy who lost his only brother to cancer at a young age and now he solely cares for his aging parents. Drew is currently facing a tremendously difficult battle for his own life and well-being. As Drew’s friends and loved ones, we need to come together and support him financially in this time of need.
Recently, Drew received a cancer diagnosis of Malignant Neoplasm of the tongue and Squamous Cell Cacinoma of the oral cavity. Drew underwent a grueling surgery to remove the left half of his tongue, and most of his lymph nodes from his neck.
His tongue was reconstructed through a procedure in which tissue and a vein were harvested from his left arm, and skin grafted from his left leg and attached to the site where the flesh was removed to rebuild his tongue. In all, Drew underwent 12 hours of surgical procedures.
During his 9 day hospital stay post-surgery, Drew was unable to speak, eat or drink and had feeding tube inserted up his nose and into his stomach. This, in addition to a tracheostomy tube in his throat so he could breathe and a drain sewn into his throat to drain the surgical area. Drew has completed 20-of-30 treatments of radiation and chemotherapy so far.
Drew is fortunate that his he has medical insurance to help pay medical expenses. However, the cancer has greatly impacted him financially in a big way. In all, between the surgery and the recovery time, Drew will be unable to work for close to one year. He can’t earn a salary to pay for everyday life expenses like food and rent.
