Drew Goodson's Road to Recovery from a Spinal Cord Injury
Donation protected
On May 5, 2024 Drew, his wife Bailey and two of their children were enjoying the morning on Black Creek in Freeport, FL. Drew dove off the boat into the water as they had been doing all morning. However, this time he crashed head on with a log that was underwater and not seen from the surface. Drew immediately lost all feeling and ability to move from the neck down. With some incredible mama/wife adrenaline Bailey was able to get to Drew and get him safely to shore. She also had to get back to the kids and get them safely to shore as well. Drew was eventually airlifted to HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin Hospital. It was quickly determined that his neck was broken in 4 places (C1, C2, C6, and C7). Drew has undergone one surgery already to make some repairs to C6, C7, and to straighten/stabilize his spine. On May 9th Drew will undergo an extremely extensive surgery to make even more repairs and to take some pressure off the spinal cord. This surgery could last anywhere from 6-10 hours. We have faith and are extremely hopeful that this surgery will be a great success. We are standing in the light of all the small miracles that have taken place already. Drew is currently still paralyzed from the chest down. So far there is no evidence of a severed spinal cord but it has been injured in a few places. His road to recovery is going to be a lengthy one. The current plan is that he will be placed in a rehab in Atlanta, GA. On top of being out of work for an extensive period of time he and his family will also have a lot of extra expenses with medical bills, travel, and medical equipment. We first and foremost are asking for continued prayers. We have seen God intertwined in all of the delicate details of this entire situation from the very beginning. Secondly, we ask for those who can to donate in order to help ease the financial burden during this time of incredible need.
Drew is an amazing husband, father, son, grandson, brother, nephew, uncle, and friend to so many. We are praying and believing that we will see Drew make a full recovery so that he can get back to the people and things he loves. We will continue to update here through his journey. We thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting our Drew Bear and his family!
