Help spread the word! On August 4th 2016 at approx 7:30pm , Our 13 year old son Drew was in a tragic accident involving a golf cart near our home in Romeo, MI. He was rushed to Troy Beaumont Hospital then airlifted to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital which is a Level1 facility. Currently he is in the PICU. He had seizures during transport and hadn't opened his eyes in 7 days. His current condition includes: being on a ventilator (which now has a leak), in a coma, medically induced paralysis, multiple skull fractures, temporal bone fractures, which can cause hearing loss or make him totally deaf. Seizures, severe edema,  2 surgerys of the brain (once for the pressure monitoring device where they drilled into his head and the second time to place a drain from the left side of his skull down threw the brain to the right side), facial disfigurment, brain damage, road rash, had a pic line implanted into his upper left arm and fished through a vein to his chest (comparable to a medi port), bed sores, an arterial cath is monitoring his blood pressure/heart because of the critical nature of the injuries. His "stubborn nature" continues to fight the sedatives, paralytic and ventilator,  what a STRONG boy. BP/HR/Brain Pressure all continue to be uncontrollable. Drew needs several other surgeries but his body is not able to handle them at this time.  When Drew does come out of his coma we are preparing ourselves that he may not know who we are or who he is. He may not be able to speak or process information. He most likely will need to learn to walk, eat, cough, swallow,  blowing his nose, relearn basic skills all over again.  These among other simple tasks will all be retaught with occupational therapy,  physical therapy,  speech and of course by all of our amazing family and friends that have been a great support.

We never thought in our lifetime that we would need to ask for assistance (we are usually offering help to others) to ensure our son is given  every opportunity to succeed. This occurred after his mom and I discussed and came to the realization that we need to plan on large medical bills, care givers, the need for a wheelchair capable transport vehicle, 1st floor bedroom and shower and even the need for a wheelchair ramp added to our home. I can't even begin to understand how this tragedy will impact the progress he has made with his Aspergers and the impacts this will have on his little brother?

The extent of brain damage is still unknown. Drew  does have partial brain activity but we will not know to what extent until the bleeding and cerebral spinal fluid stop building up, till the swelling goes way down and drains and bolt are removed from his head. Our strong willed stubborn boy has a very long road ahead of him!

Equally as important as monetary donations, are your prayers. Please continue to pray for Drew, his family, friends, doctors and nurses. We all believe in the power of prayer.

Please share with your family and friends.
