Driving Miss Doozi !!

Hello Everyone!
My name is Micki, and this is Miss Doozi.
Retired on a fixed income, I need to raise money for surgery for my little Pug girl. She was a little backyard breeder mama who was found neglected in a dirty, dusty yard in the middle of Central Valley in California. She was only 14 lbs. here, just a skeleton. She had even put weight on in this photo but still was a skinny girl!
The breeders couldn't be bothered to even throw her a burger; she was continuously hungry and left alone to her own devices. She eats so little; couldn't they have given her something once in a while?
But she was used to make babies. Indeed, she is only 2-3 yrs. I'm not sure, and she's already had at least one litter.
She has been neutered to make sure she isn't used as a mama any longer, and this skinny girl fattened up to about 17.2 lbs. on the best foods I could find. She is given marrow bones and delicious chews too!
I take her on walks several times a day, and she's the perfect lady on the walk. She takes everything in stride and is curious and friendly. She already has made friends with two pugs on our block, Gordon and Milo!
She is the sweetest baby! Unfortunately, once she recovered from her surgery, she got a chance to run around in large enclosed areas and only then did I realize, upon her exertion, (including just being in a hot summer environment), that her airway was compromised. Unfortunately, this is very common for flat-nosed breeds (Brachycephalic).
She was loudly honking and gasping after running around, and to think she's had this problem and suffered for 2-3 yrs. is untenable. (I've tried to add more videos but this platform and YouTube aren't cooperating and I can't get them to load).
More videos here! (see Naughty Miss Doozi!)
Hopefully, it is only an elongated soft palate issue, though these pups can have several issues in this area, as you can see in the link below:
I have taken her to a specialist surgeon of these breeds, and she confirmed Miss Doozi needs surgery, not only for the quality of her life but because the restricted breathing and subsequent pressure on her system can affect her lungs and heart and cause future disease as a result.
I am concerned about putting her under anesthesia as it is risky for these breeds, but this surgeon is highly recommended and has experience. When I went to her clinic, it was filled with French Bulldogs, Bulldogs and Pugs.
Dr. doesn't think she needs the nostrils enlarged, so the estimate is just for the elongated palate; she doesn't know for sure until she sees inside. The first number on the estimate is if everything goes well, she'll go home the first day. The second amount is if there are complications and she has to stay overnight. I added a couple dollars to the total for any fees.
- NOTE: I've decided to opt for the lower estimate of 1380.- as an optomistic goal! All monies will be returned if I'm unable to gain a substantial amount towards this goal.
- If 690 people contribute only $2.- I can reach my goal of 1,380.
- If 460 people contribute only $3.- I can reach my goal of 1,380.
- If 276 people contribute only $5.- I can reach my goal of 1,380.
So you see, every little bit helps. Please share if you would to spread the word!
Miss Doozi was named after many considerations. I happened to have been working on the NY Times Spelling Bee one afternoon, and the word "doozie" came up, and that decided it for me. Because she IS a little doozy, and of all the Pugs I've had, she is the biggest brat! The nerve she has!
The first time I took her to my friend's house, she jumped on the back of their couch and onto their dining room table! Such manners! I can only think she was used to jumping off trash, boxes and old tires heaped in the junkyard she lived in. She didn't know how to go on walks, didn't have a best friend, nor had toys to play with. Unthinkable!
But now she sleeps in a huge soft bed (mine!), walks great on a leash, chills out with me at cafés, greets everyone, and doesn't even mind her little rain jacket!
What a rascal with a great funny personality; she loves people and other dogs. I want her to be able to play without gasping and honking for breath; she is, after all, still young and loves to play. I don't want to be afraid she collapses in the heat, either. She deserves the best after the horrible upbringing she had.
Please consider giving even a little, as it all adds up. I will appreciate any help, even a couple of dollars; I know how difficult times are now for us all.
I'm ready for fall weather...please send a little love!
If you can't help now, please share across your social media to help give Miss Doozi a chance.
Thank you Everyone for anything you can do!
