Dromcollogher & District Respite Care Centre

Join us in making a difference! We are raising money in aid of our charity Dromcollogher and District Respite Care Centre, Dromcollogher, Co. Limerick

Dromcollogher and District Respite Care Centre opened its doors in April 2002. It is a purpose-built, single-storied Centre incorporating a 14-bedded residence to provide short-term respite care for the older person and, at the same time, relief for their primary carers. It operates on a 24-hour basis, seven days a week for 50 weeks per annum.

It was established by the local people, led by Seamus Stack, a local dairy farmer, through a huge voluntary effort in conjunction with various statutory bodies (HSE and Pobal) and many generous donors to help meet a growing need in our society. Our mission statement remains at the very core of how we operate our Centre on the day-to-day:

“Mindful of the physical, mental, social and spiritual needs of each individual. The Management and Staff aim to provide wholesome and professional care based on the concept of the dignity of the human person. A happy home-away-from-home, a welcoming and safe environment to our residents.”

Our service is available to all those who need it in the local community, further afield and surrounding areas of Limerick, Cork and Kerry.

In line with our mission and ethos, fees are maintained at an affordable cost per week. Our residents receive complete nursing care 24/7, and their holistic needs are assessed and then met for their stay.

As a result of charging a small fee for Respite Care, fundraising remains a vital component of our income. The local community has been most generous in the past 20 years to enable us to continue providing a high level of care to each resident.

To comply with HIQA regulations and maintain social distancing, we need to build an additional three en-suite bedrooms. We are currently fundraising for the extension
