Drought Relief for People and Wildlife
Tax deductible
Kenya is suffering from a long term drought. This is an appeal to support efforts in food support for people and wildlife. Funds raised in the next two weeks will be divided to purchase food aid for families in the Meibae Community Conservancy and to supply hay bales to feed the endangered Grevy's Zebra.
In past years ACK has supplied food for families in the Meibae Community Conservancy who are suffering from the extended drought that has been compounded by the impact of locust invasion following the last substatnial rainfall in 2019-2020.
Similarly, the competition between livestock and wildlife during the drought cause suffering in these species. To assist the endangered Grevy's zebra, the Grevy's Zebra Trust (https://www.grevyszebratrust.org/2021/09/responding-to-the-drought-crisis-in-northern-kenya/) has been placing hay bales in critical areas. While the hay is meant most to support zebra, other wildlife and livestock will consume the hay as well.
Please help ACK in providing for the needs in this region to reduce the impact of the drought. While we recognize that this type of aid is not a long term solution to the impacts of climat change, such emergency aid is needed as we work together with the community and conservation partners to evaluate long-term efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change. 50% of funds raised will supply food aid to people and 50% will be transferred to GZT to support the supplimental feeding in the Meibae region.
