Drunk Driver Hit Our Parked Car

Donation protected
Hey folks. This year has been a lot, but nothing prepared me for what happened to us this past weekend. Imagine being up too late, playing a silly video game and hearing the sound of a massive impact right outside your door. I jumped to my feet, woke my husband to let him know I was going out to investigate, and then immediately ran back into the house yelling that someone had hit our PARKED car.

The guy was okay. He was very drunk. I'm grateful that he was unharmed. This guy, though, didn't JUST hit our car. He was driving so fast that he tore the back wheel (axle and all) right off it. The force slammed our vehicle directly into the back of our neighbor's brand new car and had spun his completely around. We are not on a busy street. Our neighborhood is quiet and small and opposite a school. Our street has speed bumps. I don't know how he was able to go so fast and do so much damage. We are still in shock. Our neighbor was in tears. She'd just bought her car and hadn't even made the first payment yet.

So, let's get into the reason why we are asking for help. First, the driver was uninsured. We only have his name and phone number. Second, our insurance had just lapsed. We'd received a bill that was 100% increase for no reason. (We'd not been in any accidents. We'd moved to a safer neighborhood. No tickets, etc.) We were in the process of getting new insurance when this happened. Of course it would happen then. So, we don't have any help in covering the expenses from that end.

Our car is not paid off. We still had a couple more years to go. We will be responsible for continuing the car payment. And we will be doing our best to do so. But in the meantime, we need a replacement car.

For those that know me, you know I've been struggling with my massage business and have had to downsize to keep my head above water.

For those that know Valentine, you know that cons haven't been as successful as they used to be. It's been such a challenge to make a living while costs continue to increase around us.

Our car is what helps us keep our businesses going. Plus, we have joint custody of our kid. Every weekend we drive out to Woodburn to pick him up and drop him off. We need a car ASAP.

Fortunately, we have a couple of leads on some used vehicles and we have some funds to put towards it. I'm asking for $3,000 to help cover the rest as well as the towing fees we'll need to pay to get our poor destroyed car off the street before the city comes to tow it.

Anything you can do to help is absolutely appreciated. We wouldn't be anywhere without our awesome community. Valentine is also running a sale on commissions if you'd like to get some pretty art, too.

Thank you!!
