"Don't Touch My Hair" (working title) Short Film

We have raised $25k! We need $10k more! Almost there!!!
LOG LINE: A natural-haired woman confronts microaggressions at work and discovers the power within herself.
The arts are such a sacred and powerful tool for enlightenment, visibility, connection, and change. We are creating a film exploring a day in the life of a woman navigating the world with natural hair. She must find a way to combat micro aggressors, figuratively and realistically, while remaining an upstanding citizen. Will you help her?
This project is a personal one, and the subject of natural hair is layered. I am aware and proud of my big hair, but it never ceases to amaze me how many times a day I am stopped to discuss it. I have come to view these interactions as a way of educating and spreading connectivity between people. When asked to touch my hair (key word "ask"), I really don't mind. It is when people have the audacity to touch me without my permission because well...my hair is a part of my body...we have an issue. Women of color continue to fight against a European worldview on the daily when it comes to their god given crowns. I have been on one too many sets where the hairdresser has no idea what to do with me. I pray this film gives hope and encouragement to women to own their power in the most beautiful way. May you find your way in this society without conforming to a skewed and unrealistic worldview. May we uplift each other for our uniqueness and the natural beauty and power that lies beneath us all.
So excited to have the brilliant Matthew Law on board to direct this film along with The Matt’s Production Company and Frustrating Films (Grasie Mercedes), Rob Smith, Andrew Post, Paul, O'Hannigan, April Qualls, and many more! Your funds will pay for all production and post production fees, rehearsals, costumes, visual effects, original music, SAG fees, actor fees, as well as crafty and other miscellaneous needs. I had to open a new fundraiser because the other became inactive over the year in lockdown. We have raised $15k and are looking for 12k more!!
I am eternally grateful for any and all support. If even one person can connect with this story (which I'm positive many will), then my team and I have succeeded. It would be an honor to have you be a part of this journey.
