Ducky’s Pyometra Surgery

Hey guys! As many of you know or have seen us post, we’ve been taking care of Ducky since she showed up at our door as a stray in July. A month into us having her and trying to re-home her, we discovered that she was pregnant. She delivered 10 beautiful pups in August, of which only 7 made it. Having and taking care of the pups has quite literally taken the life out of her. We discovered shortly after the pups were born, that Ducky and the babies were infested with worms. That, on top of feeding 7 constantly hungry and growing pups, has taken a toll on her body and her healing. We’ve done two rounds of dewormer for all, but she is still yet to gain any weight since August. And the other night, she started having water diarrhea. Which has gone on for three days now. And she has not hardly ate or drank much of anything in the last 24 hours. We took her to the vet this morning, and turns out she has a Pyometra. Pyometra is where the uterus gets infected after dogs have puppies. The Pyometra is starting to kill her, so we are having to do emergency surgery, on top of X-rays and blood work that has been done today, and well as taken home meds for her and the pups, because the pups have developed diarrhea again and are going to do another round of dewormer as well as something to help stop the diarrhea. There’s a 50/50 chance that she will survive the surgery, but if we don’t do it then the Pyometra will kill her. This year has taken a toll on Vincent and I in many ways, and the hits just keep on coming. And we really cannot afford this alone.
