Feed The Hungry
Tax deductible
Helping each other help ourselves. We all can play a part.
The Rotary Club of Westfield is excited to announce that we have started a fundraiser to fight hunger locally and in our surrounding communities. We will match up to $15,000 in donations!
During this unprecedented time, we seek to expand our two largest hunger initiatives the Backpack Program and Summertime Sandwiches.
Westfield Rotary’s Backpack Program helps to relieve food insecurity by providing weekend food to elementary school children who qualify for the free/reduced federal lunch program. This effort fills the nutrition gap caused by the interruption of school meals during the weekend, so the child comes to school Monday, fed and ready to learn. Additionally, Rotary provides those families with extra food during the extended school breaks.
During the school year, the Westfield Schools collect extra lunches weekly that are given to both the Plainfield Salvation Army and St. Joseph’s Social Service Center in Elizabeth. But hunger doesn’t stop when the school year does. Rotary’s Summertime Sandwich effort keeps the program going while school is not in session.
Our plans are to also help others who are food insecure by assisting in the restocking local food pantries, expanding our backpack program to surrounding communities in need, and to aid in fighting hunger insecurity at Union County College.
Your financial support together with the volunteer efforts of Rotarians and the participation of our local Westfield restaurants will help us to help ourselves as one united community. All donations are tax deductible through the Westfield Rotary Club Foundation, a 501c3.
