Dunbar Family Fund Raiser

Chris Dunbar who is better known as CD was diagnosed early this year with pancreatic cancer. Chris is well known and respected with Mackay sporting fraternities but is a legend in the Mackay AFL. Chris came from basketball around 1987 to try his hand at Australian Rules Football at about 17yrs of age. He played a couple of seasons in the reserve grade before making his senior debut in 1989. CD’s footy career has spanned from 1987 to 2018 and has consisted of 501 games in total of which over 300 games were played at the highest level. This is a league record that will probably never be surpassed. During CD’s footy career all of which has been played at the one club, North Mackay Saints, epitomises the clubs moto ‘Strength Through Loyalty’. CD has been a member of 3 senior premiership sides and 3 reserve grade premierships. He has played in many more finals and grand finals.

CD has enjoyed a long and fruitful sporting career. All as an amateur of the game he loves not receiving a single dollar for his time in the game. But I’m sure he would trade every milestone he has achieved to know that he would continue to see his sons grow into adults and start a family of their own and to spend the rest of a full and healthy life with his wife Katrina.

Chris is a battler and is now out of work due to his illness. There are increased financial stresses in his family household. Medical, accommodation and travel expenses on top of a loss of income.
