Dunmurry Dippers 365 days of Dipping for Luke

Dessie Aughey, one of the Dunmurry Dippers, has picked LA519 a not-for-profit organization that is very close to his heart and thanks to the support of his fellow dippers, Dessie is planning to do a dip 365 days of the year which kicked off with a splash on the 01-Jan-23 to bring awareness to suicide prevention and Mental health.

LA519 is a not-for-profit organization founded by Dessie’s cousin, Barry and his wife Deirdre, parents of the late Luke Aughey, who they lost to suicide at the age of 16. Deirdre and Barry want Luke’s legacy to make a difference by taking a proactive approach to preventing suicide and Promoting mental resilience.

All Funds raised will go towards providing QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) a certified training on suicide prevention, Mental Health First Responders also a certified training, Resilience talks and Seminars.

These courses & talks/seminars are offered to families, schools, sports clubs, community centers and workplaces at no cost, they are FREE when booked through LA519.

LA519 founded in Co Monaghan in 2021 has been arranging training throughout Co Monaghan and surrounding counties, Unfortunately, there is not a County in Ireland that could not benefit from bringing more awareness to suicide prevention and mental health, one of Barry’s goals is to have an LA519 representative in every county of Ireland adding to and promoting the supports that are already available.

In the world today a life is lost to suicide every 12.8 minutes. The impact suicide has on family members, friends, co-workers, and the community is devastating.
