Hello all. My name is Dustin Reid. I am a 36 year old graduate of Grimsley High School and North Carolina A&T State University both out of Greensboro, NC. I currently reside in Charlotte, NC. I know many of you that know me will be throughly surprised to see that I have created this fundraiser. I am surprised myself that I had to honestly. But I am in a position where I have exhausted all other options. The funds will be used to assist me with my monthly expenses while I’m recovering from my left quad injury. For those of you that don’t know I worked in the mortgage industry for over 10 years. Due to the ever changing business market within this industry I was laid off from my most recent job back in August of 2022. I was out of work for over 60 days until I decided to take on a delivery driver position making half the salary of what I was accustomed to making but still having the same bills. So as you can imagine it has definitely been a struggle. Along with my delivery job I was also doing Amazon Flex working as an independent contractor to bring in additional income. For those of you that don’t know because I wasn’t aware before doing this job, this can be a dangerous job for the delivery drivers because of encountering dogs while trying to deliver packages to clients. I’ve been bitten by a dog and chased by some on numerous occasions since taking on this job back in October of 2022. Most recently I was delivering a package to a client and when I was approaching the porch to drop off the package their dog ran up to me and started barking aggressively. As I tried to flea from the dog I fell and my leg bent backwards. Y’all this was the most pain I’ve ever experienced in my life. I knew something went wrong immediately. I went to urgent care to get treated as well as an orthopedic surgeon and they stated they believe I have ruptured my quad tendon. So with this injury I am no longer able to complete the jobs that have been generating me income. Now some of you may be asking why don’t I just get back in the mortgage industry? Please believe me I haven’t stopped trying since being laid off from my last job back in August. I have not had any success with getting a new position in that industry. So since I was working as an independent contractor Amazon will not be paying me workman’s compensation. So I have no income coming in while I’m recovering for this injury that may require me to have surgery to get it repaired. The orthopedic surgeon advised that the typical recovery time is about 4-6 months. So this fundraiser as I stated earlier is to ask you all that have it in your heart to please assist me so that I can pay my monthly bills during this time. Any donation would be greatly appreciated.
