Hello Family and Friends,
I have played ice hockey for 16 years and earned Assistant Captain or Captain my last 6 years of youth hockey. It is my passion!! I have spent countless hours improving my skills to pursue a higher level of hockey to help advance me into college hockey and beyond.
Recently, I was offered a contract on the spot to join the Hampton Roads Junior Whalers team in Chesapeake, VA whose goals are to work with players to improve their skills and showcase them in front of college recruiters. I was chosen largely based on my work ethic on the ice. They said they couldn’t teach that. This is a big honor for me and the last year I can play junior hockey before I age out. This developmental team costs $10,500 which includes five NCAA showcase tournaments, some new gear, bus travel, hotel fees, food while at away games, jerseys, workout clothes, physical therapy, concussion tests in case of injuries, and all the ice time I could possibly use. I will also have living expenses of $325/month arranged by this team, some minor equipment cost, and personal expenses. I have worked part time at Ruby Tuesday for 4 years and will be able to transfer and continue working some while training to provide my own transportation and personal costs when not away with the team.
I was hesitant until I talked to a former Whaler that was recruited and currently plays ACHA D1 college hockey with a friend and former youth hockey teammate. He played for the Whalers for several years and talked about his experience with the coaches and the owner of the team. He said it was a top notch organization and the coaches worked as hard as the players to reach their goal. The Whalers coach called me to assure me he will do everything he can to get me in front of recruiters as long as I give 100% effort. I WILL GIVE 100%!!
I am also pursuing a degree in Business Management and Marketing and will also earn a certificate in Logistics. I have completed one year at Forsyth Technical Community College in their college transfer program and earned a 4.0 and a spot on the President’s List. I will finish my summer classes in two weeks before heading out and will be able to continue my education by taking online courses while away. I enjoy interacting with people and want to become a leader on and off the ice.
I am asking for your donation so this dream can become a reality.
Thank you for your support!
Sincerely and very truly yours,
Dustin White
