Ryan's Recovery Fund
Donation protected
In February 2019, Ryan (thirteen) was riding his bicycle, doing a warm up lap at the velodrome, as he had many times before, and came off. He suffered brain damage, along with a broken collarbone, shoulder blade, cheekbone and fractured forearm.
Ryan was rushed to Canberra Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to relieve swelling on his brain. He was airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Sydney in an induced coma for ongoing treatment. Ryan didn’t come smoothly out of the coma and because of the brain surgery and his overall delicate condition, the doctors remain unable to set his broken bones.
Ryan has regained partial consciousness, however, doctors and neurosurgeons continue to work through his condition, including partial paralysis from swelling in the brain stem, memory and general cognitive issues.
Mum and Dad, Maree and Michael, are with Ryan in Sydney, thankfully supported by Ronald McDonald House Charities while he has been in the ICU. Ryan’s three siblings hold down the fort in Canberra, but with no specialist paediatric rehabilitation in Canberra, the family is facing 6-12 months in Sydney to support Ryan in his recovery.
Maree and Michael’s works are being incredibly supportive, but this situation and treatment plan places great financial and emotional burden on the family. A donation of $20 or even the cost of your morning coffee will help lighten the load and ease the family’s strain of living interstate throughout Ryan’s rehabilitation and allow for amendments to the house that mean Ryan can live back at home one day soon (bathroom modifications, hand rails etc).
Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
