Support Chemo Cuts Collective
Chemo Cuts Collective was born out of experience, and grew from a desire to give cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy support in their hair loss and regrowth journey.
Chemo Cuts Collective offers free consultations, transition cuts, head shaves, scalp care and regrowth hair cuts to cancer patients in the New York City/Tri-State area experiencing hair loss as a result of chemotherapy. Donations are used to provide Lyft and/or Über rides home from emotional salon visits, as well as hair care and styling products. They also assist with the development of the collective's 501(c)(3) nonprofit status.
In 2018, CCC Co-Founder Mary Sutcliffe--a professional hair colorist--was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. In chemotherapy, she quickly realized that hair loss was not simply a symptom of chemo; chemo-related hair loss is an emotional journey that many cancer patients feel unsupported through. Supported by her best friend and caretaker Jennie "Penelope" Love (who is also a professional hair stylist), Mary began transition haircuts that led her down her "road to bald." But that was just the beginning. Mary and Jennie's vision for Road to Bald has grown to include hair guidance for up to 1 year after regrowth begins. Hence, Chemo Cuts Collective, which aims to support participants down the road to bald and back again with confidence, compassion and community.
