Support the Dawn Lund Family
Donation protected
Hi Everyone,
My name is Michele Yoder and Dawn and I have known each other for over 18 years and she is one of my best friends.
As some of you may know, Dawn suffered a stroke on Saturday, November 12th. Tony, her husband, and a neighbor, Sarah, were able to get her to Lutheran Hospital (in Fort Wayne, IN) in 33 minutes. They administered the clot removing drug within the 3 hour time zone that is so critical. The drug worked to a degree. They surgically removed another larger clot successfully. However, a smaller clot was not removed because it would be too risky to attempt. Instead, they chose to use another drug to remove that clot. The clot busting drug did its job but it also caused hemorrhaging which was eventually able to be stopped.
Dawn was in the ICU for 6 days and is now at the rehab hospital. The stroke has left her unable to speak or move much of her right side. Speech has helped her to find her voice and is working to help her re-learn to speak and correctly identify words. She is able to recognize people and change her facial expressions. She is receiving 4 hours per day of therapy combined with PT/OT/ST to help her recover but the road is long and uncertain.
While Tony has mostly had to go back to work now to continue supporting the family, the financial burden with now only one income is significant. While there will be some coverage through disability and insurance, those financial supports will not begin to cover the costs of her hospitalization, continued therapy and the home care that she will need for some time after she returns home.
Her goal for discharge home with home care is December 15th.
I am hoping that our community can come together to support this family through this tough time. We want Tony, Dawn and her children to only worry about how to get her better, rather than the financial burdens that this devasting and unexpected medical event has caused.
If you are able to help in any way, please do! Thank you so much for your generosity. Thank you again for your well wishes, thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Michele Yoder
