Dwayne Cardinal and his Family Needs our Help.

I'm writing this on behalf of my friend Dwayne Cardinal. Dwayne is a police officer in his 24th year on the job. We have been friends for over 20 years. In fact, we were partners when I first started with Calgary Police Service.
Dwayne's career started in Edmonton where he spent 36 weeks on a job development program with the Edmonton Police Service. Dwayne then moved to Calgary where he joined the Calgary Police Service in 1999. In 2006 Dwayne and his family joined the RCMP where he worked in Maskwacees formerly known as Hobbema.
After one year he returned to Calgary for family reasons where he continued to work until 2020.
Dwayne is now a proud member of the Tsuut'ina Nation Police Service.
Unfortunately, Dwayne is now dealing with the fight of his life as he was diagnosed with cancer in his bladder in May of 2021. After surgically removing the tumor from his bladder, Dwayne was given options to have his bladder removed and to wear a stoma. The other option given was high dose chemotherapy followed by radiation and more chemotherapy. To avoid the surgery Dwayne chose option 2.
Dwayne continues to do everything to improve his health and battle the cancer. Following all the treatments Dwayne returned to work Believing he had beaten this disease. Unfortunately, the tumor was growing inside him and would reveal itself two months later.
Dwayne underwent a second surgical removal of the tumor. He also went through BCG therapy Where they directly injected A bacteria directly into his bladder, designed to help his body fight the foreign bacteria and cancer. This procedure was again unsuccessful. Dwayne has recently undergone a third surgery to remove cancer from his bladder. Although his cancer team has done everything, they can with the tools we have in this country, they have run out of solutions short of removing Dwayne's bladder.
Outside of Canada Dwayne and his family have explored other options, a few which are available for him. The hope is that their treatment program will not involve surgery. This is a quality-of-life Decision that will affect the rest of his life. The cost of these options outside of Canada are expensive and the reason for starting a Go fund Me to help our brother, Dwayne Cardinal.
