A SISTER'S PLEA
My name is Maricris Drouaillet and I'm Maya's sister. On behalf of our family, I am asking for your donation to help us continue our search efforts to find our missing sister. We have searched for Maya since we found out she was missing one year and eight months ago, and we will not stop until we bring our baby sister home.
BACKGROUND
Maya Millete of Chula Vista, CA was a 39-year-old mother of three who went missing on Thursday, January 7th, 2021. Our family planned a weekend trip to Big Bear to celebrate her daughter’s birthday, but she suddenly stopped communicating with us just the day before we set out to leave. Maya's behavior was so out of character that the family began to worry. We went to her house and were told that Maya hadn't been seen by her husband, Larry, and their children since the night of Thursday, January 7th. Her cars were at home, but her IDs, debit cards, and cell phone were missing. We immediately filed a missing person’s report with Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD), where her case is currently open and being investigated.
MISSING PERSON TURNS MURDER CASE
After countless tips, search warrants, and interviews, there was finally a break in the case: On October 19, 2021 (nine months after Maya disappeared), her husband, Larry, was arrested for her murder. He pleaded “not guilty” and is currently being held in Chula Vista County Jail without bail. The case is ongoing.
HELP FIND MAYA
In addition to the worldwide media coverage that Maya’s case has garnered, resources have been put together to learn more about her case: Facebook and website. With the help of volunteers, these are updated regularly with case status, search information, prayer vigils, rallies, and weekly prayer groups.
SEARCH EFFORTS
Since Maya disappeared, a team of dedicated volunteers (most of whom had never met Maya) has been distributing fliers and conducting searches in and outside the Chula Vista vicinity. The “I Am Maya Search Team” (formerly Team Maya) has selflessly dedicated their weekends for over a year and a half to search for her. Following the tips and other leads from law enforcement, the search team gathers almost weekly (weather permitting) to search for Maya's remains, not leaving any stone unturned.
Maya’s body has not been found, but we're not giving up. For this incredible search team, giving up will NEVER be an option.
While we wait for Maya's murder trial to commence and for justice to be served, the search team will focus our efforts solely on searching for Maya. And we desperately need your help to ensure that these efforts continue.
With your donation, we will be able to fund the following:
- Devices (i.e., metal detectors, drones, handheld GPS, two-way communicators, ground-penetrating radar [a device that detects human remains underground], etc.)
- Safety gear (i.e., snake gaiters, bug repellants, hiking sticks, safety vests, etc.)
