Dwight Wood Bama Baseball Memorial
Donation protected
UA Dwight Wood was the biggest supporter, fan, and friend to all who were associated with Alabama Baseball. Words can not express how the vacancy in Dwight's seat at "The Joe" (Joe Sewell Thomas Stadium) will be felt by all in the 2018 season.
UPDATE: Because Dwight loved us so much and gave everything he had to support our team, we assumed he had a supportive family network nearby. Since his suddden passing on The Quad prior to the Mercer game, we've come to learn that Dwight was survived by distant relatives in Virginia which were located by an investigator in the last 24 hours. To our great disappointment, the relatives are having Dwight creamated and requested no service.
Thankfully, players, parents and boosters have agreed we WILL HAVE our own Memorial Service which we are hoping to hold at "The Joe" (more info to follow). Dwight's church is holding a Memorial Service as well in a couple of weeks, which everyone is welcomed to both services once the dates are finalized.
Friends, since we've had this extraordinary turn of events, we feel there are several options for the fund. It is the opinion of the current team, parents and boosters that the funds raised from this account go to purchase a plaque or some other permanent marker at the stadium to memorialize Dwight and the balance of the funds be contributed to The New Life Center being built at Dwight's church which he loved so much. The church is planning to name their new gymnasium, or their new dining hall after Dwight.
*The Alabama Baseball-Dwight Wood Memorial Go Fund Me account will go directly to help pay for a permanent memorial at the Joe Sewell-Thomas Stadium (upon approval from the atheltic department) and a room in the new "Life Center" named in Dwight's honor at his church. We certainly apologize for any confusion upon this unexpected change and donations will be returned at your request if you so desire by clicking the envelope icon by my name. Please send your request there and I will make arrangements to refund the full amount of your gift.
You may still contribute here or you may mail a check made out to The Dwight Wood Memorial Fund-Bethany Baptist to Capstone Bank 2000 Lurleen B. Wallace Blvd Northport, AL 35476. All of the bank funds are now going to the construction of the New Life Center at Dwight's Church. Thank you, we apppreciate your help, your quick response and support has been amazing and so very appreciated by all of those who loved Dwight!! Roll Tide!
