Navy Clearance Diver Trust

Filling the gaps to provide relief for Clearance Divers (CDs) and their dependents from hardship resulting from injury or health impacts (physical or mental) of their service or training.

Due to the nature of their service CDs have sometimes struggled to transition to civilian life. The Navy Clearance Diver Trust (NCDT) conducted a survey of serving and ex-serving CDs in 2022, which revealed some concerning statistics from the survey sample:

  • 70% consider being a CD is a core part of their identity
  • 47% feel positive about their current situation
  • 73% (of transitioned CDs) found transitioning difficult
  • 81% have experienced relationship issues as a result of service
  • 54% have disguised a mental health issue
  • 40% are suffering symptoms of depression
  • 27% have self-harmed
  • 40% have considered suicide
  • 6% have attempted to suicide

The NCDT provides relief from hardship for CDs and their beneficiaries. While there are mechanisms for support through RAN and Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) there are inevitably gaps due to timing or scope of support.

The NCDT provides financial support from funds raised to ensure hardship is mitigated in parallel with working with Royal Australian Navy Clearance Diving Association (RANCDA) to ensure that CD has access to all options that can assist in their specific circumstances.

Help support the NCDT support our CDs.
