Dylan's Fight: Kidney Failure and Loss
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Dylan‘s mom. Dylan is a 13-year-old boy on the autism spectrum and is currently in kidney failure. While we wait for a donor, he goes to dialysis three times a week an hour and a half away from his home. The trip starts with me picking him up at school at 12 o’clock right after lunch and then we make our trip to dialysis. We get there around 1:30 PM. He sits for three hours while they clean his blood, take his blood pressure multiple times, and monitor him until the treatment is done. Then it’s another hour and a half to two hours back to Staten Island.
He is such a trooper. He is so strong.
This all started at the beginning of September when he had a full-blown seizure during lunch at school. We went to the ER and had a EEG done later that month and nothing came up. Then, right before Halloween. Dylan had another full-blown seizure at home with me. I received a phone call after doing blood work from his pediatrician at 6 AM that he was going into renal failure and I had to bring him to the emergency room. He spent eight days in the PICU at Staten Island University Hospital Cohens children’s, we found out that one kidney was only working at 25 maybe 30% and the other at about 88% and the drs had no idea why. They are still unsure if this has happened because of a genetic issue or that his kidney just didn’t grow with him as he got older.
He’s had to take so many medications morning noon and night, complete change of diet, weekly blood draws, swallowing pills like a champ because he knew he just wanted to feel better so he followed the doctors orders. He’s the best he’s had the best attitude towards this whole thing. It’s unbelievable how strong he is. He also no longer has his father for support since he passed of mental illness in 2022. He gets tired and frustrated, but he’s always OK. He knows he’s got me and his twin brother and his family and friends right by his side and that helps a lot.
I’m not one to do a GoFundMe, we have more than we need, but I know people want to help so I created this page to raise money to get things for Dylan that he wants for during treatment and at home to keep his spirits up. We really can’t go anywhere because he still has seizures at least once a month and we’re at dialysis three days a week. We are just exhausted.
We appreciate any and every donation given. It will all go to Dylan!
