Dylan's Road to Recovery 'You Got This'

Second update: 31/12/2023 - Day 47
After spending 23 days in ICU in Townsville, Dylan was moved into a neurosurgical ward, but unfortunately continued to have a build up of fluid in his brain, the last resort was to have a brain shunt implanted to help regulate the fluid buildup. After two days, it became coiled and kinked resulting in a further surgery to fix it.

On day 38 Dylan was transported closer to home for ongoing hospitalised rehabilitation just in time for Christmas with family. On boxing day he was diagnosed with Covid and with Christmas and New Year Rehabilitation has been very slow to start but hopefully will begin in the New Year until he is well enough to have another surgery on one of the other remaining aneurysms. It is still just the beginning of Dylan's long and unknown journey and recovery ❤️‍ please keep prayers and love coming our way as this helps us get through every day.

UPDATE 4.12.2023
Dear all,

Apologies we have not updated sooner as it has been a very difficult time for the family of Dylan. He has been in the Townsville Hospital Intensive Care Unit since being admitted the 15th November, today is Day 19.

He had brain surgery upon arrival to relieve the pressure and the following day had another surgery where they stopped the bleeding by inserting two coils into the ruptured aneurysm. Medical staff discovered a further two aneurysms in Dylan’s brain. He was doing really well for the first 7 days however suffered another seizure resulting in another four brain surgeries and he is also fighting a brain infection and continuing brain spasms.

Dylan has been responsive and responding to commands. However the damage and recovery is still unknown.. His partner Laura, has been continuously by his side during this incredibly challenging time. She has a calming effect on Dylan which is contributing to his rest and recovery.

Laura, Dylan and family are incredibly grateful for the amount of love, generosity and support they are receiving from donations to the Go Fund Me as well as family, friends and the community supporting in so many beautiful caring ways. Laura says” People are still reaching out every day, this has helped so much and makes it easier to get through each day knowing we are surrounded by so much love and kindness from our hometown and surrounds. It's not just the money, it's the little things, like local businesses, community members, family and friends helping in special ways”.

DYLAN'S STORY

To the friends, and family of Dylan Ahern and Laura Hardess
We would like to update you on Dylan’s situation.

As some of you all might have seen and heard Dylan had a bad fall on the 15th of November 2023. He hit his head causing an aneurysm to rupture and bleed into his brain.

He was taken to the Atherton hospital and was immediately flown to Townsville University Hospital for emergency surgery. Dylan was non-responsive for over 24hrs. He had surgery to relieve the pressure of his brain bleed and a second surgery to fix the burst aneurysm. They found another two aneurysm’s and because of the trauma they need to wait until further recovery. Dylan is in ICU, his recovery is still unknown and lengthy.

Dylan is a well-known member of the Herberton community for the past 8 years with his partner Laura Hardess (Georgie) and their 3 sons William, Ronin and Raedon.
They previously lived and worked in Ravenshoe and the Ravenshoe community know him well.

Through their local shop and eBay store, Tableland Treasures in Herberton, Dylan has brought love and laughter to many, touching the hearts of the young and old. Dylan has opened their shop to the community, especially kids, teaching and inspiring them to try new card games and making new friends with his fabulous welcoming smile.

Over the past 18 months Dylan has been supporting and taking care of his partner Laura (Georgie) due to multiple chronic medical issues preventing her from working. He is the family’s main source of income, and they will need the support of the people around them to assist them through this difficult time. The shop cannot remain open at present and their eBay store has been parked. The costs of living, living away from home in Townsville and medical costs whilst still supporting everyone at home will ultimately cause financial hardship for this beautiful community loving family. These funds will be used to ease the stress and burden of Dylan’s Road to recovery.

If you are able, please consider donating what you can to Dylan and his family during this challenging time. Every little bit helps. Please also continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Laura (Georgie), Dylan and the boys appreciate all your love. Thank you.
