Dyson's Journey
Donation protected
In July of 2015, then 14 year old, Dyson was diagnosed with Scoliosis and was found to have a 38 degree curve in his spine. While waiting for a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon, his degree worsened. After seeing the surgeon in June of 2016, he was informed that his curve is now at 78 degrees. This has affected Dyson's life drastically. Once an energetic and skilled athlete, he has now been reduced to playing no sports at all. Basic functions such as walking, sitting, laying down, and even breathing prove difficult for Dyson. He constantly feels pain. One major complaint he constantly has is that he can feel his bottom ribs rubbing on his hip bones.
During consultation with the orthopaedic surgeon, he discovered that the only remedy for his diagnosis is surgery. The surgery is very invasive and comes with life threatening risks. Dyson desperately wants the surgery. It will consist of an 8+ hour operation with Dyson laying on his front for most of the procedure while titanium rods are inserted into his back and his spine is fused. The surgery will be performed in Hamilton, Ontario at Mac University Hospital which is an hour drive from Dyson's home. The Go fund me account is to help recover the costs of gas for the numerous trips back and forth for pre-operative appointments, surgery and hospital stay visits, and follow up and extensive physio therapy trips. Dyson's family will also need to stay in a hotel to be close to him for the surgery. Lastly, the donations will help in the purchase of any aids Dyson will require for his recovery. Dyson's surgery date has been confirmed for December 6, 2016.
Dyson's mom is a single mother who has 4 sons. She is not working at the moment and is appreciative of any help they receive. Thank you for your support.
