Mix 102.3's Spirit Of Christmas - Mel D Dzelde

Our aim is to bring Christmas early for Mel Dzelde.

Having beaten cancer on three occasions, Mel was diagnosed for a fourth time and is currently battling Stage 4 Rectal cancer. During treatment for this, she was then diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease last year, which there is no coming back from.

Mel has a close association with us at Mix 102.3 having worked here as an Executive Producer for Kym, Ali and Dzelde in the early 2000’s. This is where she first met Chris Dzelde, who was to become her husband many years down the track, when they reconnected at a concert.

Following a fall where Mel broke her ankle, she was placed in the Mary Potter Hospice for recovery purposes. Unfortunately, her diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease is slowly overtaking her body and her prognosis is not good. Her dream is to enjoy a big family Christmas (with her three adult sons Shannon, Casey and Mackenzie) and while we would have loved to see her get home to celebrate, instead we are bringing Christmas early to her and the wonderful people of the Mary Potter Hospice.

Mel has never wanted to be an imposition on anyone. However, she is passionate about not letting her illness affect her husband or her kids. So we’re asking our amazing listeners and friends and family to help bring Christmas early to Mel Dzelde and to relieve her husband Chris of some of the financial stress he is currently experiencing.
