"Representing Australia"
Donation protected
Hello Everyone
My name is Jessica Gray and I am a Disabled Bench Press Athlete, a mum, a wife, a Multiple sclerosis sufferer and Ambassador for MS Australia. I just recently competed in the XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow where I placed 4th.
My dream is to qualify to go to the Paralympics in Rio in 2016 and the next Commonwealth Games in 2018 to inspire other people with disabilities, mothers and women like me to strive for their dreams irrespective of their life’s challenges.
Recently my sport (Para Powerlifting) had its funding completely cut by the ASC (Australian Sports Commission).
To qualify for the Paralympics in 2016, or the next Commonwealth games in 2018, we must continue competing on the international circuit every year.
These qualifying events are being held in different countries through Asia, Europe and America, and will require an unbelievable amount of fund raising in order for us to be able to represent Australia.
I am 100% committed to my training and want nothing more than to have the opportunity to compete for my country.
Each of the international competitions cost approximately 5,000 per athlete, so you can see my dilemma as to how I will be able to achieve our fund raising targets.
Irecently competed in Mexico on the 20th of April 2015, Which I was proud to have achieved a bronze medal and a new international personal best.
My training has been great and against all odds I feel strong and ready for my next challenge "the European Open Championships" on the 24th of November in Hungary.
I feel that keeping Para Powerlifting alive will benefit Australia in many ways. In my case It will raise the profile of women in sport, especially disabled sport.
Getting the funding to represent Australia overseas will raise our profile off shore as well as at home.
It will send a positive message to the community that the Australian community is supporting disabled athletes to achieve their dreams. Through my social media it will also help encourage other people like me in the community that they too can have dreams like myself even if they too have a disability Physical or Mental.
Thank you very much for reading my page and I hope you can donate money to this cause, no matter how big or small - ALL donations will help in so many ways. If you know any one or any businesses that might like to get behind this cause, I would greatly appreciate you passing this on to any one that might be able to help.
