La presente campagna di crowdfunding ha l’obiettivo di completare la raccolta fondi per il restauro dell’Oratorio di Sant’Antonio da Padova alle Murella a Siena.

L’Oratorio di proprietà della Contrada della Tartuca è stato edificato tra il 1682 e il 1685 ed è considerato un raro esempio di edificio barocco in Siena, che il prof. Enzo Carli definì come “il più completo e significativo esempio di chiesa contradaiola”. Più di tre secoli fa furono proprio i contradaioli della Tartuca a volere e a costruirla. Fu eretto con grande entusiasmo e con il contributo di tutta la Comunità Senese, diventando il luogo che custodisce i nostri ricordi più intensi.

I fondi raccolti consentiranno un adeguato intervento di restauro della volta affrescata sovrastante l’Oratorio, cosi che possa essere ancora teatro di nuove e più grandi emozioni, nostre e delle generazioni future.

Con la campagna di fundraising iniziata nella primavera del 2024 abbiamo già raccolto più di due terzi dei fondi necessari. E’ stato possibile grazie al sostegno della Fondazione Monte dei Paschi di Siena che tramite il bando “Let’s ART” ha deliberato un contributo da destinare al restauro e grazie alle sottoscrizioni di contradaioli Tartuchini come di cittadini della città di Siena. Inoltre, tante persone stanno mettendo a disposizione le loro capacità professionali e tempo per rendere possibile l’intervento di recupero della volta affrescata.

Tuttavia, per realizzare il restauro nel miglior modo possibile, il nostro Oratorio necessita di maggiori fondi e per farlo è necessario il tuo sostegno. Ogni piccola donazione sarà un grande contributo per salvaguardare un luogo imprescindibile per la nostra comunità e un bene artistico di inestimabile valore.

L’Oratorio di Sant’Antonio da Padova

Si tratta di una chiesa voluta, progettata e costruita dagli stessi abitanti del rione, sono stati i tartuchini di allora a procurare i mezzi finanziari, a eseguire i vari lavori di costruzione, muratura, stucco, come pure l’esecuzione delle opere d’arte conservate nell’oratorio.

L’Oratorio custodisce i ricordi più forti della Contrada: le vittorie, i giri in città, le benedizioni dei cavalli, il passaggio al mondo dei “grandi”, le celebrazioni funebri. Come tutte le chiese di contrada, è il luogo dove le Consorelle omaggiano la Contrada durante i rispettivi “giri in città” delle Feste Titolari dedicate ai loro patroni.

Situato tra il Museo degli Arredi Sacri ed il Museo del Palio e del Costume della Contrada , fa parte del percorso museale e consente di scoprire la bellezza della nostra tradizione, anche con l’aiuto di visite guidate. Nel 2023, l’Oratorio ha registrato una presenza di 6.500 visitatori provenienti da tutto il mondo.

Perché ha bisogno di un intervento?

Dopo il recente terremoto, la diagnosi sullo stato attuale indica con chiarezza l'utilità di procedere ad un intervento di restauro non solo degli elementi di pregio ma anche delle parti strutturali della Chiesa ed in particolare della copertura della cupola centrale. L'intervento sarà specificatamente indirizzato alla CONSERVAZIONE, al RESTAURO, alla PRESERVAZIONE e alla VALORIZZAZIONE dell’Oratorio, nel rispetto delle imprescindibili esigenze di sicurezza e di rinforzo dei manufatti e degli irrinunciabili presupposti di salvaguardia dei manufatti storici degli stessi.

In che cosa consisterà l’intervento?

RIFACIMENTO DELLA COPERTURA DELLA VOLTA: smontaggio, consolidamento, eventuale sostituzione, rifacimento del manto di copertura.

RESTAURO DELLA VOLTA: protezione di attuali affreschi, esecuzione di strutture estradossali, rinforzo della centinatura storica, consolidamento della camorcanna, restauro di affreschi e decorazioni presenti.

Our story

This crowdfunding campaign aims to complete the fundraising for the restoration of the Oratory of Saint Anthony of Padua at Le Murella in Siena, Italy.

The Oratory, owned by the Contrada della Tartuca, was built between 1682 and 1685 and is considered a rare example of Baroque architecture in Siena. Professor Enzo Carli described it as “the most complete and significant example of a Contrada church.” Over three centuries ago, the members of the Contrada della Tartuca themselves envisioned and built it with great enthusiasm and contributions from the entire Sienese community. It has since become a place that holds some of our most cherished memories.

The funds raised will allow for the proper restoration of the frescoed vault above the Oratory, enabling it to continue to host profound and lasting experiences for our and future generations.

With the fundraising campaign launched in spring 2024, we have already collected over two-thirds of the required funds. This was made possible thanks to the support of the Monte dei Paschi di Siena Foundation, which awarded a grant through the "Let’s ART" initiative to support the restoration, as well as donations from members of the Tartuca Contrada and citizens of Siena. Additionally, many individuals are volunteering their professional skills and time to make the restoration of the frescoed vault possible.

However, to carry out the restoration to the highest standard, our Oratory still needs additional funds, and we need your support to achieve this. Every small donation will make a big difference in preserving a vital part of our community and a priceless artistic treasure.

The Oratory of Saint Anthony of Padua

This is a church envisioned, designed, and constructed by the residents of the Contrada. The Tartuca members of that time provided the financial resources and carried out various construction tasks, including masonry, stucco work, and the creation of the artistic works preserved in the Oratory.

The Oratory safeguards the strongest memories of the Contrada: victories, celebratory parades through the city, the blessings of horses, transitions into adulthood, and funeral ceremonies. Like all Contrada churches, it is where the other Contrade pay tribute during their respective "city parades" dedicated to their patrons.

Situated between the Museum of Sacred Furnishings and the Museum of the Palio and Contrada Costumes, the Oratory is part of the museum itinerary and allows visitors to discover the beauty of our traditions through guided tours. In 2023, the Oratory welcomed 6,500 visitors from all over the world.

Why does it need restoration?

Following a recent earthquake, an assessment of its current condition has clearly indicated the need for restoration, not only of its artistic elements but also of the church's structural components, particularly the covering of the central dome. The intervention will focus on CONSERVATION, RESTORATION, PRESERVATION, and ENHANCEMENT of the Oratory, respecting the essential requirements of safety, structural reinforcement, and the preservation of its historical elements.

What will the restoration involve?

• REPLACEMENT OF THE VAULT COVERING: Dismantling, consolidation, possible replacement, and reconstruction of the roof covering.

• RESTORATION OF THE VAULT: Protection of existing frescoes, construction of extrados structures, reinforcement of the historic centering, consolidation of the cane-lattice framework, and restoration of frescoes and decorations.
