Our sister-in-law Melissa and our youngest brother Mark are in need of help from any angels out there. Marks wife Melissa has taken ill with pnuemonia and is currently in the hospital.
In June 2002 Melissa was diagnosed with hsp(Henoch-Schonlein purpura) which attacks the kidneys causing them to fail. From 2002 to 2012 her kidneys had stabilized at 20%. In November 2012 things took a turn for the worse her kidneys began to fail and dropped below the 20% level and she was placed on the donor list for a kidney. In January 2013 Melissa and Mark received a call from Massachussettes General Hospital in Boston Ma/, that they had found a donor that they had believed was a good match. The kidney donor was a match and it had worked out perfectly. In August of 2013 Melissa found a lump in her right breast which sent her back to doctor's and which led her to being diagnosed with breast cancer. Melissa's diagnosis led her to having a radical mastectomy followed by months of chemo and radiation therapy treatments. From May of 2014 Melissa has been cancer free. Melissa is currently in the hospital after having been diagnosed with pnuemonia. She currently has fluid built up around her lungs and has had the fluid drained but pockets keep filling up.
Melissa is the primary wage earner taking care of her husband Mark and their 14 year old son Alexzander. She just began her new job a couple of months before getting sick. She hasn't met her 90 day mark for any type of short term disability and doesn't have any vacation time saved added to the possiblity of losing her insurance benefits as the primary insurance holder for her family because she is unable to work. They are experiencing a great financial hardship. Her husband (our youngest brother) has been traveling daily to the hospital to be with her and added to that are the housefold finances for rent and food, and medical bills that are adding up. If there is anything no matter how large or small that anyone can do to help them both of our families, Melissa and Marks, will be beyond greatful. We have no idea how long she will be hospitalized and will post updates when we can. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
