“COVID really wanted to take me away. I’m going to be okay. I know I am because I’m not going to give up. I can’t give up on myself.”

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in May 2020, Robert Lara -- a loving father to Taylor Lara, husband of Birdy Lara, son of Rey and Rosa, and uncle to countless nieces and nephews -- was diagnosed with the virus.

 Within a week, he was rushed to the hospital where his condition worsened before it got better. Before returning home on Wednesday September 9, 2020 to continue his rehabilitation and recovery, Robert had spent a total of 85 days on a ventilator and 125 days in the hospital. After being confined to a hospital bed for over 4 months without the ability even to breathe on his own, he has lost the free use of his hands and the ability to walk, which will require many long and difficult months of physical therapy and rehabilitation to gain back again.  

Our motto is "Stronger than yesterday! Just keep going!"  My husband is an amazing person and gets stronger everyday, but in order to do this, we are in need of financial help. 

If anyone would like to assist us with this heavy burden and play a part in Robert's long and inspirational journey to recovery, any donation through GoFundMe would be appreciated.  All funds raised here will go directly to Robert's medical expenses and any related travel and living costs incurred due to his rehabilitation.
