Jude's Cancer Therapy

Meet Jude, my best friend and my service dog. Jude and I live together in Woodland Hills Ca. I am a music teacher...guitar and piano. Jude is only 7 years old. He has the most incredible kind heart and so very smart. He loves meeting people...it's almost his favorite thing to do, but mention the "s" word and nothing else matters. The "s" word is for swim. Now, Jude is a Golden Retriever, and people know that Goldens love to swim, but you have never seen anything as joyous as Jude's love for swimming. Anyone who knows him believes he is part sea lion. People constantly stop on the beach to tell me "Your dog sure loves to swim!" I smile and say "Yes, I've noticed."
Early this month, Jude's right eye began to tear. I thought he was having an allergic reaction until his nose started to have a discharge and I noticed blood. We headed to the vet. Jude's white blood cell count was high and we were hopeful that antibiotics would solve the problem of possibly a sinus infection. But, when the antibiotics were not helping, it was back to the vet. There was an inflamed lymph gland that we aspirated and found that my boy had one of two types of skin cancer. He's only 7 and if you would see him in the ocean...strong and joyous and a picture of perfect health, you would be as shocked as I am that he has only a few months to live. If Jude needs to move on, so be it...I will not let him suffer, but our amazing oncologist has him on a cocktail that has him back to the pre cancer Jude! The problem is that he won't last long unless he receives cancer therapy. I need to make a decision about his care and even the decision of just "keeping him comfortable" has already cost nearly $1500.00. The next step is a consult with a radiologist. A CT scan will tell us if the cancer is localized and if so, it can be radiated with a good chance of success. (Approx $2000.00 for set up and approx $380.00 per radiation and he may need several) There is also a form of chemo therapy that we may try ($4000.00 for first 9 weeks then cost decreases to ?) and, depending on the type of cancer, there have been some great results with a melanoma vaccine. (Approx $3200.00)
We dog lovers love our dogs...we know from the start that they will probably leave this world, as we know it, before we do, but this boy....only 7...he needs more time here...I need him to have more time here. I swear, I won't let him suffer, and I will take him to swim every day I possibly can and go for long walks and he will get all the love I have. I will be so grateful for anything you can do. Please send your love to my boy...he would do it for you.
