Treatment for Tabitha

Hi everyone, my name is Katelyn (also known as Katy) Cole, and I have the incredible privilege of being Tabitha’s best friend.

2020 was a horrid year for most, and a lot of people are still trying to move past the traumatic events that we’ve witnessed in the last year. One of those people is my best friend. In late October 2020, Tabitha Daniel contracted a severe case of COVID-19, which in turn sent her to the hospital for nearly ten days straight. Her reaction to the virus was way worse than any of us had thought it could be. This led doctors to believe something was up.

Eventually, they decided to give her a treatment that was being used on the sickest of coronavirus patients, and she slowly started to feel better. Doctors were still concerned afterwards because she seemed in generally good health and she is in her late twenties.

When spring of 2021 came around, she’s still suffering with a rash that won’t heal, her hair falling out, and a multitude of other symptoms. They called her back in for a follow up and stated that her platelet levels looked abnormal, and they wanted to investigate further by doing a bone marrow biopsy.

The results came back a week later and we were all shocked. Tabitha has a rare type of blood cancer called Hairy Cell Leukemia. This cancer is rare by itself, but the majority of studies show that this is usually found in older males, making it an even more rare diagnosis.

On June 18th, 2021 her treatment team followed up with her and they believe it’s time to start chemo. Tabitha is a hair stylist and though her team at Posh Salon has cared for her so immensely through her recent illnesses, Tabitha won’t be able to work while she is undergoing treatment and recovery.
