Jerry’s Double Knee Surgery

Our 2 year old dog, Jerry, was recently diagnosed with bilateral luxating patellas and bowed tibias, resulting in partial CCL injuries — similar to ACL injuries in humans. This diagnosis came as a huge surprise to us, as these injuries are usually only found in small dogs.

Because Jerry is so young and extremely active, our vet is recommending TPLO surgery of both knees, and possibly a distal femoral osteotomy, to ensure he will live a long, happy, and healthy life. This surgery has almost a 100% success rate and will prevent any further knee injuries. Without the surgery, Jerry will have decreasing range of motion, arthritis, and muscle atrophy, ultimately resulting in complete lameness. Surgery is estimated to cost $5000-$6000 per leg, as well as an extra $1000-$2000 for imaging and physical therapy in the coming months. With Ethan in school full time, we are struggling to find the funds to cover these large expenses. 

Jerry is the sweetest, most snuggly boy, and he is currently in training to be a Diabetic Alert Dog. We want to give him a long, happy life, filled with lots of adventures and zoomies. Our vet is recommending surgery as soon as possible to prevent his injuries from advancing, which will give Jerry an even higher chance of a full recovery and, hopefully, a shorter recovery time.
