Lucius Hal Conger Disabled Veteran
Lucius Hal Conger born January 5, 1925 is 92 years old. He is a disabled WW II veteran, father of 4, (two of which are senior citizens themselves and draw social security), widower who lost his love of 62 years nearly 8 years ago now.
Living alone Lucius has had to rely on savings, social security and the generosity of his family to meet the financial and medical needs of his aging soul.
Recently the funds have run out and he had to leave his home and move to Florida to live in an Assisted Living near his youngest child.
The adjustment has been difficult not just mentally but physically as well. He has suffered 5 falls since moving. One serious enough to land him in the hosipital for 3 days only to learn that he has a condition known as severe spinal stenosis. Which leaves him with intermittent paralysis from the waist down. Surgery is not a safe option at his age.
He is no longer capable of walking with a walker and will be at the mercy of others to transfer him from chair to chair to bed and bathroom etc...this type of assistance is not available at assisted livings. The assistance part is primarily meals, activities and transportation for community outings.
He has been moved from home, to assisted living, to hospital and now to inpatient rehab. Medicare will only pay 100% of the first 20 days. After that there are outrageous daily co-pays that are impossible to pay.
He wants to go back to the assisted living. He is far too mentally sound for a nursing home. He needs financial help. All donataions will be used to hire nursing assistance to help him physically move from bed to chair/bathroom.
We have begun the V.A. Benefits process but have been advised the waiting list is 6 - 14 months long.
He has served with every ounce of his life for our country, his family and his faith.
