Naomi's Lifetime Medical Expenses

As Naomi's uncle, brother and cousins were cleaning up the side yard with the riding mower and rakes, she was busily chattering in the kitchen to her aunt and helping fix her favorite dinner, spaghetti.  After trying to rush the dinner along with little success, she went into the other room with her aunt believing that she was re-joining company with her eldest teenage cousin.  Her uncle had warned her just 30 minutes before to stay inside while the boys cleaned up the yard.  So being the mischievious 7 year old that she is, she decided it would be fun to sneak out and hide behind a tree and spook her brother and cousins as they came close to the tree.

She jumped from behind the tree just as the tractor approached and she tripped and slid under the mower. Her petite body was trapped under the mower.  Due to the quick response of the boys, her uncle and her dad, the mower was lifted off of her and her daddy pulled her to safety; but not before there was critical damage to her right arm.  She also sustained a skull fracture with deep lacerations at the crown of her head.  The youngest ran and called 911, wherein her aunt took over the phone coordination as daddy and her uncle were able to move her to a safe place.  Miracle upon miracle rapidly occured...The first responders team from the Rock Community Fire and Ambulance Department responded at record speed.  Ironically an off-duty officer from Jefferson County Police Department was the first one on the scene as he was flagged down by family and neighbors just after the incident.  Additional policemen, firemen and paramedics arrived on the scene.  Within 20 minutes after the accident, she was placed on a Survival Flight helicopter and air-lifted to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.

Prayers were immediately made in the front yard on Naomi's behalf by the first responders, family and neighbors.  Before her Nana could make it home, she had over 100 people praying for Naomi.

When she arrived in the Emergency Department, she could wiggled her fingers even though it appeared there wasn't enough of her arm to do so.  She was coherent and told the emergency staff that they would have to ask her Nana, what her birthdate was because she couldn't recall.

At 8:30 that evening she underwent a 4 1/2 hour entensive surgery to clean out the battered arm and to assess the extent of her injuries.  The miracles kept coming as they learned there was mimimal or no nerve damage to her mutilated arm!  They were amazed that none of her nerves were damaged, even though there was tissue and skin missing and eight fractures with one crushed bone and three fractured fingers!

The EMS team could not believe that there was any way to save her arm, but by the miracle of our Heavenly Father, she not only is keeping her arm, but should have full function.

Her second surgery lasted approximately 3 1/2 hours wherein the general and orthopedic surgeons cleaned/flushed the wounded arm again and irrigated the tissue.  They added retractors to the arm to stablize, but felt that surgery to set the fractures was still not possible due to debris washing to the surface.

Her third surgery was this past Monday that lasted approximately 3 1/2 hours wherein the orthopedic surgeons were able to flush the arm again and remove the retractors.  They repaired all fractures in her arm and worked on the crushed bone.

Today, one week from the first surgery, she began surgery at 11:00 and ended sometime around  5:00. The plastic surgeons diligently repaired and pinned the intricate bones in four fingers with multiple fractures. They also applied a substitute tissue at her elbow with hopes that the tissue will "take" and her veins will begin to treat this tissue as her own.  Last, they re-wrapped and stretched the skin and tissue on her upper arm without having to have any grafts.  HalleluYAH!

Although Naomi's journey to health is not complete yet, she is well on her way to healing.  Her body has been broken, but her spirit has strengthened due to her faith and the faith of all of the true believers that believe in the power of prayer.  Naomi's favorite radio station is Joy FM that she religiously listens to every night as she lays her head on the pillow.  She has her Hello Kitty alarm clock/radio beside her hospital bed and has continued to vocalize her thankfulness for being alive.
Her loved ones are eternally grateful for sparing the life of their precious Naomi.  Being true to her name, she is so pleasant.

Thanks to all that have prayed endlessly for her recovery and for her life to be spared at this time.  Our gratitude is immeasurable to the hundreds of churches of all denominations, to Joy FM listeners, to the hundreds of registered nurses around the country, to the Messianic assemblies and to all others that we don't know about.  Naomi would like to especially thank Jonathan for fasting and his prayers.

Cardinal Glennon Rocks!  We hope to repay any expenses that our insurance will not cover and allow funds for future surgeries that Naomi may need in the future.  There is much counseling needed in order to heal our family's peace of mind.  I pray that others in need are blessed with the power of prayer and finding their strength in the hearts of men that are turned to their Creator.  Blessings, in the Messiah,
