Eagle Project at Spicewood Elementary

** This fundraising is for a Boy Scout's Eagle project. Thank you for your generous support. Any excess money collected will be donated to the Spicewood Elementary PTA **
Hi! My name is Roshan Paul and I'm currently a junior at Westwood High School in Austin, Texas. I'm a Boy Scout in Troop 162, and I have been a member of this troop for more than 5 years. Having being a Boy Scout since the 6th grade, I've definitely learned a lot of important skills and valuable life lessons that will stick with me throughout my entire life. As I rose through the ranks, I learned various things such as making fires, tying different knots with unique purposes, cooking nutritious meals, how to treat injuries from simple cuts/scrapes to venomous snakebites, and eventually how to become an exceptional leader. After all these years, I'm finally working on earning the highest rank in Scouting: the rank of Eagle.
This fundraiser is for my Eagle project, which is a service project that a Scout must plan and lead as one of the requirements toward becoming an Eagle Scout. My Eagle project will be at Spicewood Elementary, which is where I went to school from 2nd grade to 5th grade. I hold this school close to my heart even after departing it so long ago, and I wish to give back to it for the warm and welcoming environment that helped me become the person I am today. Not only that, this year marks the 50th anniversary of Spicewood Elementary (the school was established in 1974), making this project all the more special.
The money I'm collecting will be used to beautify several areas in front of the school. I've included a list of everything I intend to do for this project below:
- The wall with the Spicewood logo, the ground around the new turf in front of the school, and several other areas will be pressure washed
- The stones of the school sign (which you can see in the photo above) will be pressure washed, the inside of the sign (the area where the announcements are posted) will be cleaned, the dead plants/weeds in the bed of the sign will be removed, and weed barrier & river rocks will be put in the bed to make the overall area of the sign appear more attractive and well-kept
- The blue wooden tables in front of the school will be re-painted and the wood on the table with the metal frame will be replaced - the wood on this table would then be painted blue
- The rose bed area on the right side of the front of the school will be filled with river rocks. We decided to expand the river rock coverage to also include the area with the crepe myrtle, the area between the rose beds, and the area on the far right of the rose beds for a total of 1043 square feet of gravel. We are planning to cover the bed of the school sign with river rocks as well, which is an additional 63 square feet of river rocks. All of this has resulted in a higher overall cost estimate.
With your help, this project will foster pride for Spicewood Elementary not just in the current school community, but in future generations of students and families to come.
Thank you for your support in helping me bring this project to fruition!
Yours in Scouting,
Roshan Paul
