Eagle Project Emery County Search & Rescue

My name is Cooper White. 5 years ago Emery County Search and Rescue responded to a call from my dad on Memorial Day weekend.. The UTV I was riding in with my grandparents had rolled and gone of a 100 ft cliff in Eagle Canyon of the San Rafael Swell. My grandparents died at the scene, my cousin and I were critically injured. Emery County Search and Rescue were the first ground crews on the scene. They helped my family get out after I was air lifted to the hospital, cleaned up our campground and stayed at the scene to remove my deceased grandparents bodies and their vehicle.
I want to give back to this amazing group of volunteers who give of their time, talents and resources week after week, 365 days a year, at no charge to the people they help. Each rescue can range from $1,000 to tens of thousands of dollars. They use their own equipment and have to replace the ropes and gear that get ruined in the rescue efforts due to the strain on the ropes in the terrain they work in. One rope can cost $1,000. The team consist of 42 volunteers ranging in age from 21 to 70. They have a 12 member rope team (who supply their own equipment costing $3,000 each), EMT's, First Responders, and Wilderness Responders.
The area they cover is 4,460 square miles. The calls they respond to range from river rescues and slot canyons to snow covered slopes and desert terrain. Emery County responds, on average, to one call out per week--with some years being much higher than that. They have helped rescue experienced canyoneers to boy scouts out on a river adventure. Their services are available and used by people from all over who go to recreate in the San Rafael Desert and surrounding areas.
My family will never forget the day they came out to help us on a Sunday afternoon. Nor will we forget they way in which they acted in the upmost professional manner, truly caring about the people they were helping instead of just doing a job. These group of volunteers are truly top notch. Please help me in raising funds for them to continue to provide the services they do for people they do not know, but genuinely care about helping. I have a goal of raising $10,000 dollars but know, from talking with them, the true need for equip them properly is over $100,000. Help share the word in hopes to find more people willing to help so they can help more people like me. Without them, I may not have been here today.
