Eagle Scout Project at East Fork Lake State Park

My name is Caden Conrard and I am currently a Life Scout working towards my Eagle rank. I am a part of Troop 694 at Immaculate Heart of Mary and a senior at St. Xavier High School.

For my Eagle Scout Project, I will be replacing and installing a bridge along the hiking and biking path at East Fork Lake State Park. I have designed a 16' by 4' wooden bridge that will be constructed from treated lumber. Each of the three 16' beams will be made from a pair of 2" x 12" boards connected by carriage bolts to add strength and stability. The 4' treads will be made from 2" x 10" boards and screwed into place. The treads will be coated with sand and polyurethane to create a non-skid surface for added safety.

With the help of my fellow scouts, I will begin by removing and clearing out any remnants of the old bridge. Then, I will bring in all of the materials which will have been pre-cut, drilled and will be ready for assembly. A footer for each end of the bridge will be dug out in order to place a thick layer of crushed limestone. The bridge will be assembled on site and anchored by driving rebar into each end of the three beams, through the crushed limestone and into the ground below,

Any donations received beyond the cost of the bridge will be donated to East Fork Lake Park to be used to make additional improvements. Thank you for your support and helping me reach my goal of becoming an Eagle Scout!
