Eagle Scout Service Project at Stepping Stones
Donation protected
Dear Community Members,
My name is Dylan P. Hoey and I am a Life Scout and Patrol Leader in Troop 1 Katonah. Troop 1 Katonah was established in 1919 and is one the oldest troops in New York's Greater Hudson Valley Council. In addition, I have been inducted into the Order of the Arrow and will complete full membership in the future.
Since age 11, I have been an active member of Troop 1 Katonah. I have advanced steadily, and at each step I have been assigned duties of increasing responsibility. With all Merit Badges completed and other requirements met, the final step to earning the rank of Eagle Scout is the completion of the capstone Eagle Scout Service Project.
I have chosen to conduct my Eagle Scout Service Project at The Stepping Stones Foundation in Katonah, NY. Their mission statement is: "to foster public understanding of alcoholism and inspire recovery by preserving and sharing the historic home, archives, and legacy of Bill and Lois Wilson, cofounders, respectively, of Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon Family Groups".
As stated above, Stepping Stones is the historic home of the co-founders of AA and Al-Anon Bill and Lois Wilson. The entire property and all buildings and facilities are listed on the US National Register of Historic Places, US National Landmark and New York State Register of Historic Places.
With over a year of research, assessment, detailed planning, several site surveys and permits completed, my service project has been approved by the Muscoot District Advancement Committee. Associated fundraising has been approved by the Greater Hudson Valley Council. I will ensure that all fundraising activities are conducted in strict compliance with “Procedures and Limitations on Eagle Scout Service Project Fundraising”.
My service project includes the replacement of a foot bridge over a wetland area and repair of abutments leading to an old potable water pump house and well area. This project may facilitate future Eagle Scout Service Projects, including perhaps the rebuilding of the old pump house. The largest cost associated with my service project is the much needed repair of the foot bridge abutments. It is estimated the cost for stone work will not exceed $3,000. The repair of the abutments will be conducted by skilled and qualified stone masons from Tom Williamson Landscaping of Briarcliff Manor, NY. The construction of the 4’ x 14” foot bridge will be conducted entirely by Troop 1 Katonah and other skilled and qualified volunteers from the community . The cost of all materials and supplies to build the bridge will not exceed $2,000. All building materials, supplies and safety gear will be locally purchased from King Lumber, Goldens Bridge, NY. Other expenses include food, water and other comfort items for my service project crews. Service project work is schedule to commence the week of November 27, 2023.
Any donated excess funds will be disbursed directly back to The Stepping Stones Foundation in the name of all who contributed to this Eagle Scout Service Project.
All donations are tax deductible, please consult your tax professional. Information about The Stepping Stones Foundation is listed and linked below.
Thank you taking the time to review this request for funding. The Stepping Stones Foundation and Troop 1 Katonah will greatly appreciate your involvement and or donation to this Eagle Scout Service Project.
Respectfully yours,
Dylan P. Hoey
