Eagle Scout Service Project - Calico Campground

My name is Lucien and I am Life Scout in Scouts BSA Troop 110. In October of 2023, my troop was camping at the Calico Campground at Calico Ghost Town. While there, I started looking closely at the picnic tables in our campsites and the other campsites in the loop and saw that they were in very poor condition. The layers of paint that have been applied have faded and have begun to come off; the wood that makes up the table top and the benches of the table are cracked and, in some cases, broken. The extreme heat and cold of the desert, time, and us humans had taken its toll on the tables. More than one of the picnic tables had a 4-inch droop in the middle of the seating area, making it potentially unsafe.

My service project consists of rehabilitating the picnic benches in Loop F (22 sites, with one picnic bench per site) with new lumber, nuts, bolts, and washers that hold the lumber to the existing metal frames. This will increase the functionality of the tables and the aesthetics.
