Meet Chase
Chase is an energetic, witty and loving little boy.
Since the day he was born, he has been keeping his family and loved ones on their toes because he was born with Goldenhar Syndrome.
Goldenhar Syndrome is a rare congenital condition characterized by abnormal development of the eye, ear, spine, heart and face.
For Chase, he has a few heart, spine and eye conditions. His left jaw and left ear are also affected. There is no known cause of Goldenhar Syndrome.
He was born with grade 4 Microtia, also known as Anotia, which means he has no left ear at all.
Due to this condition, his family has been looking into numerous surgeons across the US who specialize in ear reconstruction surgery.
His family has a handful of doctors they are seriously considering but also have enough time from now until he is due to have surgery, to decide on which doctor is the best fit for Chase. This leaves his family with ample amount of time to save up the money necessary for this procedure.
Due to the fact that his insurance is considered out of network with a majority of the surgeons and this procedure is also deemed as "cosmetic", getting insurance to cover the procedure is not likely.
The cost of this procedure is roughly around $60,000.
So far, the top Surgeon is Dr. John Reinisch, in Beverly Hills CA. Dr. Reinisch developed Medpor, which is polyethylene implant that is used along with a skin graft to create an ear. The material is porous therefore the surrounding blood vessels and skin will integrate with the material.
Aside from Dr. Reinisch, his family has been in contact with a newly discovered Dr located in NY who performs Cadaver Cartilage ear reconstruction surgery. With Medpor, there is a very slim chance that the ear could break if hit hard enough, and with Cartilage, the chance of it breaking is nonexistent. There is a lot to consider with this procedure and his family is doing all they can to make the best, most informed decision that's right for Chase.
We appreciate your prayers and support as we navigate this journey!
