Earthquake Recovery in Morcou, Haiti
On August 14, 2021, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of southwestern Haiti.
Following the recent devastation of the earthquake in 2010 and Hurricane Matthew in 2016, my hometown Morcou is in desperate need of help.
I’m especially concerned because it is often overlooked. Morcou is one of the smallest villages in the south, situated in a mountainous region near the coastal towns of Anse-a-Veau and Petit-Trou de Nippes.
Its population of 4,524 is made up of mostly farming families–growing crops of sugar cane, corn, millet, beans, banana, plantain, avocado, pumpkins, mangoes, potatoes, papaya and soursop to make a living.
But, these natural disasters do more than destroy their homes. They ruin their livelihoods. And as the larger towns nearby receive more support and development, the local community struggles to recover year after year.
Please help me rebuild Morcou. It is my deep desire to aid the local families as they get back on their feet. The goal is to help refurbish at least 20 houses within the next year.
Keep Haiti in your prayers. Your support means everything.
Thank You, Joaeuse
