Earthquake Relief and Recovery Support for Myanmar

Donation protected
On 28 March 2025, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar near Mandalay, causing widespread destruction and loss of life. Current reports indicate over 1,000 fatalities and thousands more injured. The quake severely impacted infrastructure, with numerous buildings, including homes and historical sites, collapsed or damaged.

Doh Eain is a Yangon-based social enterprise employing 80 researchers, community engagement specialists, urban designers, architects, construction specialists, and development professionals. Originally dedicated primarily to heritage preservation and placemaking, since the onset of COVID-19 in 2020 and the military coup in 2021, we have expanded our work beyond culture and public space to support community resilience and development more broadly with a focus on the built environment.

Building on our place-based, participatory approach, we have been investing in local organisations, growing capacity and supporting them to respond to crises, build resilience, and drive community development. Through the establishment of Neighbourhood Networks—a growing alliance of local organisations deeply embedded in their neighbourhoods—today we coordinate chapters in six cities, including Mandalay and Nyaung Shwe, with a total of over 250 member grassroots organisations. To date, we have jointly delivered more than $2 million USD in direct relief to communities affected by pandemics, conflict and natural disasters (typhoon Yagi last year).

Through and with our local networks, we are currently assessing needs on the ground in the affected regions. Based on preliminary information, funds raised through this campaign will likely support:

1) Immediate Relief: Partnering with local organisations to provide essentials such as food, water, and temporary shelter to those displaced by the earthquake.

2) Reconstruction Efforts: Utilising our design and construction expertise to assess and repair damage to the built environment, including housing and community/public infrastructure, ensuring safe and resilient repairs and rebuilding.

We are committed to ensuring that aid reaches those most in need swiftly and transparently, leveraging our established community networks and local partnerships.

Thank you for your support.
