Japan Earthquake - Trey & Rie Manning family
Donation protected
My name is Trey Manning and my Wife is Rie Manning (Kaga).
MY wife is from Nakajima (Omaki)Japan, a rural town located on the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture. I was an JET English teacher in Anamizu Japan (also in the Noto) when we met in 2002. We are regular hardworking people who never thought that we would use the Go Fund Me platform for ourselves or our family.
However, that all changed on New Year’s 2024. Instead of celebrating, we were glued to the television and internet due to a 7.5 magnitude earthquake and tsunami in Japan. As we continued to watch, we were horrified to learn that the primary and worst hit areas included where my wife’s parents have lived for over 50 years and also where I worked and lived for 3 years.
My father-in-law, Takashi is 83. He barely survived Covid a year ago and is more frail than he was prior, but he is enjoying his life and grandchildren. He was an elementary school teacher and principal in his younger days.
My mother-in-law, Takemi, is 73. You would think she would be retired but she runs a small country store that is attached to their home. They do not make much money and the store is their livelihood and has been a resource for so many in their rural community, especially the elderly.
Takashi and Takemi were forced to immediately evacuate the earthquake and potential tsunami with just the clothes on their backs. They are in an evacuation “facility” indefinitely (a local preschool that was undamaged). There is no traffic in or out via train or roads due to damage from the earthquake. It is a mild winter in their area now, but that could quickly change. There house is not in livable condition and may be irreparable.
We are attempting to raise funds to rebuild/repair there home/store and to assist in day to day living and health care. We would like to temporarily relocate them ASAP to a safer place Daughter in Tokyo). All funds will go directly to Takashi and Takemi to rebuild their home and take care of their health in this critical time.
My wife and I humbly and graciously appreciate any assistance that you can provide and if you are able to share this Go Fund Me on behalf of us and Takashi and Takemi.
We also encourage you to spread the word of this devastating tragedy in Japan and consider supporting the Japanese Red Cross in their relief efforts.
Thank you,
Trey and Rie Manning
