Ease Araya's battle with FND
Donation protected
Hi all, my name is Afrodita, I am Araya's mum. Two years ago Araya was your average teenager, healthy, fun loving, cheeky feisty pocket rocket. Nowadays she is isolated, withdrawn and very angry. What began with severe migraines and body tremors, became a living nightmare.
Araya was rushed to hospital in January 2023 with stroke-like symptoms. Scans, blood tests, all showed nothing. After a few days of observations & more tests Araya was diagnosed with FND (Functional Neurological Disorder).
FND - glitches of the "software" in your brain. This causes problems with the function of the nervous system & the way the brain sends & receives messages, so every function that is controlled by the brain can be affected.
Araya no longer attends school, I am her full time carer. On a daily basis, Araya has limb weakness, involuntary jerking, spasms, tremors & many times is unable to walk. Uncontrollable shaking, dizziness, migraines, tics, repetitive sounds, movements, tourettes. Many times her speech is delayed/slurred, chronic pain, insomnia, panic attacks, anxiety & depression.
Drop attacks- Araya can be walking, freezers become paralysed, blacks out fall to the ground. Araya has 20/30 Dissociative seizures a day, she also requires assistance when walking, toileting, showering, dressing, and sometimes needs assistance with cutting up food or filling up a bottle of water.
Araya needs a comfortable & safe environment, a wheelchair ramp at the front of the house so on days she can't walk I can take her out safely, otherwise she misses all her medical appointments.
Easy access to the bathroom, toilet and hand rails throughout the home.
Araya is on many medications, some are not covered by PBS costing a great deal.
Araya's medical team so far Psychiatrist, Psychologist, GP.
She needs to see a Neurologist , Occupational Therapist , Physiotherapist.
Thank You to all for your donations, Araya & I truly appreciate your kindness....♥♥♥
