Ease Burden for Thomas D'Arcy Ferreira's Family

Donation protected
Update: I wanted to let everyone know how grateful the boys and I are for your love and support. We are still a long way from bridging the gap for our needs so please continue to share. I also wanted to update everyone on D'Arcy's organ donation. His liver went to a woman in Central California in her 30s. They tell me it saved her life. A woman in Southern California in her 40s that had been on dialysis for a year got one kidney. A gentleman in Iowa in his 70s that had been on dialysis for a year got the other kidney.

On Saturday, April 29, 2023 my husband, the sweetest and most kind-hearted man I've ever known, Thomas "D'Arcy" Ferreira, had a terrible accident. He was surfing in his favorite surf spot on the south side of the Oceanside Pier. We believe he dove head first off his surfboard and had misjudged the depth of the water. Unfortunately, this broke his neck, severed an artery to his brain, that ultimately proved to be fatal. D'Arcy's son pulled him from the water but the damage was already done. He was declared braindead on Monday, May 1, 2023. On Thursday, May 4, 2023, D'Arcy completed his final act of generosity through organ donation and was taken off life support just after midnight May 5, 2023. We will be doing a paddle-out to spread his ashes in the spot where he died and we will let everyone know when we have a firm date. All are welcome to join us.

Unfortunately, our family was ill-prepared for this unforeseen emergency. Having been through our own divorces and subsequently pouring everything we had into D'Arcy's law firm left us living day to day. We have no life insurance on D'Arcy, no health insurance, no retirement accounts and no savings. The only real asset we have is our home and unfortunately, that is almost fully encumbered between the mortgage and our significant tax debt.

D'Arcy and I have worked together in his law firm for the past 15 years. So, this event also means I have lost the vast majority of our household income. It is embarrassing for me, as I know it would be for him, to post these intimate details about our finances. But he leaves behind two sons, Isaiah (19) and Isaac (18), who I have helped raise since they were 1 and 2. D'Arcy also helped me raise my 2 sons who are now grown. I owe it to him and the boys to set aside my pride and ask for help to get me and them through this terrible ordeal.

I'm am so grateful for the outpouring of love and support we have received. I have been blessed to do life with D'Arcy for the past 17 years. The boys and I would be grateful for any amount you can contribute. The need is real and it's significant.
