Ease Chris' Burden After Darleen's Passing

Dear Friends,

Recently our dear friend Chris Bricker lost his longtime partner Darleen Lum to cancer. Darleen and Chris lived together in a loving relationship for nearly twenty years and were all but inseparable. As many of you know, Darleen was diagnosed with Stage IV esophageal cancer in December 2023. She had been undergoing treatment, however unfortunately, the advanced nature of her cancer became too much to bear. She passed away on May 9th, 2024.

Darleen was a beloved friend to us all. She lived a life full of infectious enthusiasm. Whether it was her exuberance for music, cooking, dancing, or travel with her friends, Darleen dove in with her whole self. (As a side note, let's not forget her hilarious, devoted obsession with turtles... If you've been to her home, you know what we mean!) There were no better times than the wonderful dinner parties with Chris and Darleen, as they artfully and graciously catered to those they love, leading the way with their laughter. It was with similar energy and skill that she performed her important, methodical work as an accountant, developing tax strategies for non-profit organizations. She truly cared that her work made a difference for the better in the world. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and who had the privilege to laugh alongside her.

Chris is a master of many things, but his love and care for Darleen has been his main obsession since her diagnosis. He has set aside everything in this sincere endeavor. Darleen shared many times how lucky she felt to have him by her side. Caregivers are the unsung heroes of the cancer journey, and Chris' devotion to Darleen during this time has been unwavering.

To help Chris through this difficult time of grief and transition, a group of both Darleen's and Chris' friends created this page. If you can lend a helping hand, as he navigates the task of tying up Darleen's affairs in accordance with her wishes, it would go a long way toward easing his burden.
