Easing the Burden: Support for Lain's Family

Hello,

I'm Sam, and on August 11th, my younger sister Lain passed away unexpectedly. I am starting this GoFundMe because of the outreach of friends, both Lain's and mine, who wanted to support my family.

Lain fought a hard, nearly decade long battle with schizophrenia and borderline personality disorder, and was cared for extensively by my loving parents.

Due to Lain's mental illness, she was often in and out of hospitalization stays - while some of these expenses were covered under my parents' insurance plan, my parents are still left with significant medical debt to which they are responsible for. Lain's illness also came with impulsive behaviors which saddled my parents with significant credit card debts.

My parents are rather private people and intended not to ask for help. However, they have been carrying these years worth of financial and emotional burdens in caring, working, and trying their hardest to support Lain, and are now grieving the tragic death of their child.

These burdens have resulted in my father dipping considerably into his retirement savings to cover medical expenses (in the multiple thousands), credit card debt (in excess of $10,000), and now Lain's post-death arrangements (in excess of $5,000).

This has been an extremely difficult time for both my parents and I, as well as our extended family, who loved Lain dearly and tried our best to help her.

I have spoken with my parents, and they would be open to receiving donations to help out with their expenses. As such, my parents will be designated as the beneficiaries of this fundraiser. I have my own financial struggles, completely unrelated to theirs, and I want to make sure they directly receive all of the support offered.
