Bettye Davis East Anchorage High School is the most culturally diverse school in the entire nation according to US New and World Report. Our kids have the amazing good fortune to learn, play, socialize and interact with fellow classmates whose families come from all over Alaska and all over the world. What they, unfortunately, don't have, are the funds and social network, common to many local soccer programs, to help support many of the sports and activities at East. To help remedy a small part of this inequity across the high schools in town, we are hoping to raise funds for the BDEAHS Boys Soccer team to help purchase essential gear such as socks, pennies, portable goals, and equipment that we are lacking. Many of the families in the Title I school do not have the financial ability to pay for lunch, much less for cleats, socks, and essential gear to allow these kids to play. Our student-athletes are as diverse as Alaska Natives, Central Americans, Asians and South Pacific Islanders, Exchange students, as well as refugees from Africa and Eastern Europe. It is our philosophy that with participation in high school sports comes the building of community, the bolstering of education, the learned responsibility to become adults, and the chance to make our school and community a better place. We have started the first boy's soccer booster club that East has had in years and are hoping to give our kids the resources that they need to compete. Funds will be used to purchase:

Socks: 25 pairs Red and 25 pairs White - $10 each, $500 total

Scrimmage pennies / cones - $100

Speed and agility training kit - $50

Rebound net - $70

Bownets, 1 large, 2 small - $1100

Balls, Cleats (for players who cannot afford them)- $500

Incidentals - $500

If we raise beyond our goal of $3000, this will allow us to help provide socks and gear for next season's players as well as allow us to support participation in off-season soccer leagues which our players have historically not had the financial means to join with other local high school teams.
