East TN Fire Relief-Barb&Ray's Home
Donation protected
My name is Isaac Ladd. I grew up in East Tennessee around the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg area. I now live in Nashville and I am trying to help raise money for my stepdad's family that was affected by the wildfires of East Tennessee. Many of the family members lost their homes and their belongings last night, including my stepdad’s parents. Making this GoFundMe was the least I could do to start the help train in getting them going again.
Barb and Ray Cogdill built their home in 1969. They have lived there for the vast majority of their lives. Their home could be described as the “base” for the Cogdill family. At any point in time, you were almost guaranteed to see a brother, cousin, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew at their home.
Their home was located directly behind the old Dollywood entrance. In the early morning hours of November 29, 2016, their lifelong home fell victim to the East Tennessee wildfires. The only thing that remains of the home is the foundation. All the heirlooms, clothes and special items that made the house their home were destroyed in the flames. Ray had a really nice woodshop that he spent much of his spare time in throughout the years. It has also been lost to the raging fire.
Barb and Ray escaped the fire with their lives and only the clothes on their backs. They are currently staying with one of Ray’s sons in an unfinished basement.
I would like to raise money to assist them in getting some basics such as clothing, food and medicine that were all left behind. Ray has COPD and struggles with his breathing. The suffocating smoke in the area has been detrimental to his breathing and the medicine and machines he used to fight his COPD have been destroyed. Ray’s son and daughter-in-law are going to need to rent a nearby storage unit (or onsite POD) for a few months to store all their basement belongings so that Barb and Ray have a place to stay until they get into a new home.
Any extra money that is raised will go directly to Ray and Barb to assist them on their long recovery.
THANKS!
-Isaac
**Funds will be deposited directly to Lisa Cogdill, the daughter-in-law(my mother) who is taking care of and housing them during this rough transition. I will not handle any of the funds, I am merely running the campaign for them**
